Tilt Shift

My Artist Statement

In my final self portrait project, I used symbolism in the cello and flower as to symbolize my love for music and life. It is also used to symbolize that the smallest enjoyments in life are always free and are always in the palm of your hand. When someone looks at my picture, I want that person to come away with joy or to come up with their own ideas of what they may think it is about. I want them to feel confusion and come up with their own meaning as they try to figure what the picture could possibly mean.
I came to photography to learn more about how to take better pictures and improve my skill as a photographer. I also wanted to learn about the different tools a photographer would use in their pictures. From this class I learned how photographers manipulate their surroundings to capture the perfect picture from using light or by using my imagination to create great photographs. This has caused me to learn that I'm more artistic than I thought I was at the beginning on the year and caused be to have more perspective on life. This class challenged me several times, but one of the most challenging projects had been the levitation project as some parts of the scene had some how gotten messed up and I had to find a way to cover it. Another project had been the stereographic planet project where you had to find a great place to take a photo, but after a few bumps, I am still proud of how it turned out. My favorite work would be the macro photos, they turned out beautiful and something I'm proud of, and helped me figure out which type of photography I favor the most. Macro has also taught me a different perspective on taking pictures. My second favorite would be the pinhole photos because I learned something new that day on how people had taken photos in the past. Although I'm very proud of most of my pictures, I would redo the levitation one because many things kept messing up when I was trying to fix it, which made a lot of things worse and it didn't turn out as I hoped that it would.
For any photography 1 student, I advise to never give up on your projects and to always be proud of them while doing the best you can do. I would also say to always open up to new ways of doing things because it can teach you a lot and help you improve in photography. Always try your best and use your skills that you learned from this class in the future. Never give up even if you get frustrated because it always ends up working out in the end.
